Seasons Closing

Most of the major resorts close operations this weekend, so we headed to Colorado for one more sacred skiing session at the Vail resorts. Our favorite, Keystone, was already closed, but we still had Beaver Creek, Arapahoe Basin,Vail and Breckenridge to choose from.
Most of the major resorts close operations this weekend, so we headed to Colorado for one more sacred skiing session at the Vail resorts. Our favorite, Keystone, was already closed, but we still had Beaver Creek, Arapahoe Basin,Vail and Breckenridge to choose from. Our first day was at Beaver Creek, and there was a few inches of new snow which tended to be cold and powdery at the top and a bit sticky at the very bottom. The second day we skied at Arapahoe Basin, the legend. Skiing was excellent with 6-8 inches of new powder, some of the best of this dry season. Day three saw us at Breckenridge, where the weather was classic cool spring season. Packed powder conditions prevailed and we roamed the mountain. Our last day of the season, we returned to Breckenridge gambling that it would provide us with the best conditions given the weather forecast which was for an inch or so of snow in the early morning and clearing skies thereafter. We arrived at 8:30 am in a thick snow flurry which did not abate until after noon, so our last day of the season morphed into a powder day yielding up to 2 feet of powder up in the high country. All in all a magical end to a season that always seems to short.
